Members AAAAI Announces New CME Application
Beginning immediately, the AAAAI will be providing a new application to be used by groups applying for CME credit for their educational activities. The updated form will allow us to collect additional information about all CME activities that is now required by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), and will help groups applying for credit to more easily comply with ACCME guidelines.
AAAAI Announces CME Application Changes for 2010
Many changes have occurred in the CME world in recent months. These have resulted in increased scrutiny of CME activities and increased demands on CME providers to develop high quality programs that result in improved patient care while meeting the criteria and standards of the ACCME.
The AAAAI maintains its commitment to developing and supporting the highest quality educational activities for allergy/immunology providers. To meet this goal, we will be implementing the following changes that will impact the way we provide joint sponsorship of CME activities.
Changes to CME Application Fees and Grant Management
Heightened standards have resulted in increased demands on staff time to manage the CME application, approval, and documentation process. As a result, the AAAAI Board of Directors has voted to increase the CME application fee to $500 for all activities scheduled to begin after January 1, 2010.
One of the most staff-intensive parts of implementing CME activities is requesting and managing commercial support. Because of the strict requirements for the documentation and management of these funds, AAAAI staff must submit all grant requests for AAAAI-accredited activities.
Further, heightened oversight of commercial support has also placed increased demands on staff, and requires an even greater need to insure that all documentation related to each activity is complete, thorough, and meets ACCME criteria and standards. As a result, the AAAAI will hold back 10% of each grant received. These funds will be released to the partner organization pending the timely receipt of all required activity documentation . Please refer to the activity checklist on page 2 of the application form to review the deadlines for all activity documentation.
New CME Certificate Process
The AAAAI is pleased to introduce an online certificate system for use by your learners. Once your activity is complete and all documentation has been received, AAAAI staff will notify your learners by e-mail that they may print their own CME certificates through our website. This will eliminate the need to mail paper certificates to your learners, and allow them the opportunity to reprint past certificates as needed. The certificate invitation will also include a link to a survey evaluating the impact of your activity on your learners; these results will be shared with you to help with future activity planning.
To provide access to the online CME certificate site for your learners, we will need the e-mail address for each learner who participates in your activity. This information should be reported with your final attendance list, as part of your post-activity documentation.
Our goal is to partner with you to provide the highest quality education in the field of allergy/immunology. We appreciate the opportunity to work with you toward this goal, and your commitment to the specialty. The AAAAI Education staff are available to answer your questions about these changes or any other CME issue at 414-272-6071 or cme@aaaai.org.
